It’s about restoring freedom.
My passion is to provide therapy for adults and teens who have been trapped by anxiety and depression for a long time to experience restored freedom.
Having therapy with me can cause feelings ranging from giving a five-year-old kid Mountain Dew and then throwing them in a toy store to being at the beach relaxing by the ocean.
Sometimes, a therapy session feels like two best friends talking or even a cheerleader that makes you feel special. Ultimately, you will be heard, supported, and empowered. Both feelings bring motivation and hope.
Many references will be made related to Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Dr. Who, Star Trek, Hunger Games, Twilight (yes, I said it), Pokemon, My Little Pony, Disney, DC, and Marvel Comics.
And of course, there is forever the debate over whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie. (Psst! It is.) For my more mature adults, a little Cary Grant, and even musicals. Can we say fabulous?
How do these things help?
People love these stories and can relate to most of the morals or at least one character.
Here’s an example: The Hulk is for my folks with a lot of anger. I will sometimes ask if they have turned green lately?
My clients have told me that they have enjoyed this technique and style of therapy. It is not like this all the time, of course. There are skills to learn and practice.
One example is mindfulness. Want to know what that is? Call me.
Here’s one client’s story.
She said, “I am so anxious all the time. I stress about everything. I can’t even keep my house clean. I work full time, I don’t like my boss, my husband is lazy, my kids always want something, and I can’t do it all. I don’t have time for myself. I think everyone expects me to be Wonder Woman or Super Girl and do it all.”
At this point, I taught her how to hang up her cape and use the skills she needed to start getting her mind to rest.
This took a lot of time and practice on her part. And then one session, she said, “I feel that I have hung up my cape. Sometimes I will put it back on, but remember that it is ok to hang it up at night and rest my mind. I now have more skills to use to calm myself down.”
About Me
How did I come to be a therapist?
My career started more as a sidekick to the real superheroes that worked on the psychiatric unit. Then, I decided that I wanted to be a superhero, too. I love helping people with mental health concerns, and I had a talent for it.
Therefore, I decided to get my Master’s in Social Work at the University of Tennessee. After a lot of hard work, I received my License in Clinical Social Work (LCSW). As a result, I finally achieved my goal! I finally made it to become the superhero that I always wanted to be. My superpower is being a compassionate problem-solver.
Then, I made a discovery.
My work led me to realize that everyone has a superpower waiting to be discovered. I enjoy helping people do this. For every life that I can help find a brighter path with a superpower at the end is one more person that can bring something wonderful to this world. We need as much positivity as possible in our lives.
All this may sound impossible, but it is not!
I want to turn your setback into a comeback – to become the person that you were meant to be. I believe that God has given all of us a purpose. I am not opposed to talking about God in my sessions, but I won’t unless He is brought up.
Whether you believe or not, it has been my experience for 15+ years that people have a purpose that has not been discovered due to the horrible things that life has tossed their way.
Ultimately, I want others to find their purpose. By using mine, I can better myself, my community, and my state. One day, I hope to extend my abilities to other countries as well.
I love my clients, and I’m looking forward to getting started with you, my future client.
